Sofie Flinth (DK) Julia (2020)
Julia is part of the photography series When the Sun Sets centred around five young women, stagnated in a staged reality. When Sofie Flinth, the photographer, was detached from her accustomed surroundings due to the pandemic, she decided to portray the people close to her. We see Flinth’s family relatives and childhood friends in a deserted environment away from any cities or crowds – it is a whole other reality influenced by the slow passing of time; A place where the young women stand still and gaze into something in the distance. Om kunstneren: Sofie Flinth (DK, 1996) is a visual artist based in Copenhagen working primarily with portrait and staged photography. Her photographs touch upon themes such as nostalgia, vanity, and manipulated imagery. By combining storytelling with everyday life she creates suggestive scenarios with herself and females close to her. From merging a natural environment with artificial light, she stages her surroundings, explores the imaginary and to what extend the images portray reality. In July 2020 she graduated with a BFA in Art and Design from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. (kunstnerens egen beskrivelse)
