Rexy Tseng (TW) Cavities (2021)
The painting series was inspired by the COVID-19 quarantine, where urban and natural places became void of human presence, clearing the rich and the poor equally. The word “cavity” denotes an empty space within an object or a compartment of an animal body. Instantiating the concept, the pool is intentionally rendered with a hint of flesh tone to enhance the double meaning. The pool is a symbol of leisure, however, a drained pool embodies an emotional hole, its emptiness resembles a capitalist ruin. (kunstnerens egen beskrivelse)

Om kunstneren: Rexy Tseng (1986, Taiwan) is a visual artist who works primarily in painting and installation. His art practice derives from the dark humor and unrequited desires found within contemporary living conditions. Tseng stages the unresolved past with possible futures, where he addresses personal politics, technological flaws, traumas, and emotional residues. He received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009, he attended MFA at UCLA in 2012, and he attended MFA at University of Oxford in 2017.
